Approach

I believe design education should be hands-on, collaborative, and rooted in real-world application. I also believe in experimenting with the concepts from the beginning and making mistakes. Students can improve by starting with simple exercises and gradually building on complex projects through peer discussions, hands-on labs, evaluations of peers and projects.

Tools

To make learning immersive and practical, I integrate industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Slack, Trello, Google Drive, and many more. I also encourage student to experiment with new tools that will help them speed up their workflow and processes.

Copyright, Ethics, and AI

In the design industry, professionals encounter many resources; students need to understand copyright and ethics in their field. When I teach term one students, I ensure they read the material prepared by Lindsay Tripp for the WMDD department.

I also include a quiz in class to verify that students know what intellectual property is, what copyright basics are, what users' and creators' rights are, and other related topics, including the use of Generative AI.

Outcomes

By combining practical projects, collaborative learning, and iterative design, students leave my classes with Industry-ready skills and confidence in problem-solving through user-centred approaches. And design assets that can be strong components in their portfolio, showcasing real-world projects and tested solutions. My goal is to prepare students not just to design, but to think like designers and be ready for the industry—curious, empathetic, and adaptable.
